my relationship with h2o

So, I was a never huge on drinking water. I drank a ton of soda, Mt. Dew, root beer, coca cola. Those were my favorites. In a recent attempt to start getting in shape, soda was the first thing I gave up. Hesitant at first, and failed. My 2nd (or really 4th) go at it, I’m currently at 98 days without soda!

Part 2 of my water challenge is making sure I get my daily intake of 64 oz of water. Some people like to drink from a strong, some use large cups to drink a lot of water. I’ve come to realize that my trick to drinking more water, is drinking from a standard 16.9 oz water bottle. I hate using so many bottles, so when I found this little gem, I was so excited!

Looks like a regular water bottle right? Well, another thing for me is, I can’t drink water that isn’t ice cold. It’s not refreshing, and generally doesn’t taste as good. I used to put bottles in the freezer but more often than not, j would forget about it, and then I would have a completely frozen solid bottle of water.

This Copco water bottle is ingenious. You can unscrew it from the middle, to put ice in the bottle! It’s made of tritan, and is completely durable. I bought mine from, and there are a few different colors available.

Usually at work, I drink about 36 oz of water, and then the rest at home. But with the help of the Copco cup, I drink about 60 oz a day, at work alone. I never would have thought not drinking soda would be so easy!

Not a super fun post, but I want everyone to get one of these water bottles! I want to get more too. I will get more.

I’ll post my book challenge update tomorrow, and maybe a weight loss check in. Maybe.

until next time,

you always want what you can’t have.

My entire adult life, I’ve never had a sweet tooth.  Yes, I like sweets, but I don’t often crave it.  But since giving up sweets, all I want to eat is BabyRuth’s and 3 Musketeers! I need to get back in the swing of things.  Oatmeal for breakfast, salads for lunch.  I did really good last week, I didn’t go out for breakfast or lunch all week…made dinner every day except for Friday.  I know you guys don’t know me, but that’s a huge deal.  With Calista’s after school activities, I hardly ever have time to make dinner.

Today I bought an Elliptical Trainer!  It was only $10 on Craigslist, and I’m so excited.  I’m going to take it to work, and have it under my desk.

Just another baby step to getting where I need to be.

Until next time,

i’m so sorry, self. i’ll be stronger.

Apparently giving up sweets the day after Halloween, was not the best idea. I made it one day, before I gave in. Calista had organized her 6 pounds of candy, and only ended up keeping 2 pounds haha. And of course, I had to divulge.

I took the candy to work, to get rid of it faster…there’s no way Tyler and I could eat 4 pounds of candy in a short period of time. The candy is now gone, but, I made a boo boo. Or rather, 17 boo boos.

Tyler’s mom made these for him and his siblings all the time.  Just a simple box of brownie mix, with a pinch of cinnamon and a mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup in the middle.  They are DIVINE.

So, I’m going to eat these (not all of them), and then start again.  I’ve also put my beach cruiser on Craigslist, so I can get a bike with gears, because this town is not built for fixed gears and cruisers.  Once I have that, I think I’m going to start riding my bike to work.  Also, I want to try to find a track, so Calista and I can start walking around that.  Since I can’t get to the gym anymore.

Time to make some more positive changes!  Speaking of positive changes, today was day 31 without soda!  It was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.  If only giving up fried foods and cheese was that easy.  Also, I weighed myself, and have not lost anything 😦

Today is day number 7! Haven’t even been craving it. I think after 1 month without, I am going to give up something else. Not sure what yet though.

On another note, my hip is feeling a lot better. I started taking the stairs again today. Unfortunately, on Monday my department is moving to another building, so I won’t be able to go to the gym during my break. I need to figure out another option for a quick 10 minute calorie burner/distracting from smoking.

Until next time,

This weekend, I was house/baby/dog sitting for a friend, and we were so incredibly busy.  Between the 3 kids (my 1, and my friends 2 boys), their sports (all three of them playing on different teams, and at different fields, and even in different cities), errands and just all around life.  We ate bad a lot.  BUT.  I am happy to report that today is day 5 of no soda.  And that really doesn’t seem like a long time, but considering from Friday until today, we’ve only had 3 home cooked meals, that’s pretty amazing.  I still want soda, especially on Friday when I made the kids rootbeer floats.  But, I am doing okay without it.

In regards to running/walking every day during my break.  I’m not having so much luck with that.  Last week I got a pretty massive blister on my heel, it didn’t matter what shoes I wore, it killed.  About Friday-ish, it was better, and I was able to walk without limping.  Sometime on Satruday afternoon, after roughly 6 hours of running around, running errands with the kids, and getting lunch and what not; I felt a pain in my hip.  I kind of just shrugged it off, but throughout the day it just kept getting worse and worse.  The pain comes and goes, mostly comes when I walk, but sometimes it’s there when I’m sitting, or laying, and I just have to move around until I find a spot that isn’t excrutiating.  I have no idea what I did.  It’s not like I was wrestling, or running a marathon, or tai kwon do or anything.  When I first fielt the pain, I was standing at the stove, and cutting up bacon.  Pretty strenuous right?   I think this injury stems from my weight.  My frame can’t take the extra pounds that I’ve put on over the last few years, and I don’t blame it.  Unfortunately, I love this delicious food so much.  It’s going to be hard to q uit.

I just want to get back to running, but damn.  It just hurts so bad.  And to add to the awesomeness, I don’t have insurance.  So I just get to suffer.  Lucky me.

Breakfast blues

Every morning I have the same breakfast. Scrambled eggs, hash browns and a biscuit with a shit load of gravy. And I love it. For $2.75 in the cafeteria, I get my morning happiness.

Unfortunately, I am aware that it’s not the healthiest option available, so this morning I opted for oatmeal, with raisins and granola. Walking by the hash browns that looked so golden and delicious, the biscuits were so big and flaky. Aahhhhh can’t I just eat whatever I want, and lose weight by giving up, say, work?

Don’t get me wrong, this breakfast was tasty.  But seriously,  you can’t beat biscuits and gravy.   Next month my department will be switching buildings at work, and I’ll have access to the full cafeteria in the mornings.  Which means, egg white omlets!  Even prior to dieting, this has always been my favorite breakfast choice at work.  I can’t wait!
